Have you heard of “The Paleo Diet?” It was/is a fairly recent trend whereas people decide to eat a Paleolithic diet consuming foods our Paleolithic human ancestors would have eaten many moons ago. It has been succinctly summed up this way: “If a caveman didn’t eat it then neither should you.”
Basically, a person attempting the Paleo Diet is going to focus on eating basics like meat, fish, nuts, leafy greens, vegetables and seeds. This means they won’t be eating deep-fried Twinkies, Snickers bars (but they have nuts!), or Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. It also means no pasta, cereal, or candy.
Unlike other diets, this one doesn’t require that you count calories. Instead you eat “the right foods” until you’re satiated. People who do the Paleo Diet often lose weight and build muscle; google “Paleo Diet” for pictures of people’s transformations. It’s fun to see the before and after pictures.
Remember the old adage, “You are what you eat?” Well, it’s no wonder most Americans are obese, because we tend to eat huge portions of sugar, salt, additives, and chemicals. The more junk food we consume the worse our bodies feel. We get more diseases. We get more inflammation…and pain. We have to visit the chiropractor and doctor and psychologist more and more because we’re making ourselves “sick” both mentally and physically.
The Paleo Diet eliminates grains, sugar and processed foods and it can literally be transformative for people– changing their life for the better. That said, anytime a person attempts to change their life, it helps to have some guidance as well as accountability.
Can a chiropractor help a person tackle the Paleo lifestyle? Sure! A chiropractor is focused on healing the body naturally through things like spinal adjustments. He or she is interested in helping others be well. It’s an all-encompassing kind of wellness– not just a better back or less neck pain… A chiropractor is your ally when you want to change your life for the better.
